The Upper Shore Regional Council's (USRC) Youth Assessment and Regional Planning Dashboard showcases the results of a joint effort of the Rural Maryland Council and the USRC in partnership with the Center for Rural Entrepreneurship. As part of the three-county (Cecil, Kent, and Queen Anne's) initiative, we are working with our local school systems, community leaders in economic development, local management, chambers of commerce and civic leaders to identify champions and engage our youth in a myriad of systems within our communities. With the County School Systems' support, we conducted a survey of middle school and high school students to assess youth attitudes about their communities and to determine their motivation for remaining or returning to reside in the local areas. This initiative helps to ascertain their education and career preferences, and community/economic development priorities. Our 3-County region is the first in Maryland to participate in this endeavor!
